Two Swans at Sunrise: A Custom Stained Glass Window for a Nusa Dua Villa
In September 2026 we installed one of our favourite pieces of the year: an arched stained glass window for a private villa in Nusa Dua, near Uluwatu. It sits above a freestanding bathtub. When morning light comes through, the whole bathroom turns gold, orange and turquoise.
The Design
The client wanted something romantic that still felt at home in Bali. Our answer was two white swans whose necks form a heart, set against a rising sun.
- The sky: Orange and yellow rays spread out from a golden sun, with soft white clouds drifting across them.
- The water: Hundreds of small pieces in blue, turquoise and green make the sea look like it's moving.
- The lotus pond: Pink lotus flowers and green lily pads fill the bottom of the panel. The lotus is a symbol of peace and renewal across Bali and Asia.
The arched shape follows the villa's architecture, so the window looks like it was always part of the room.

Built the Traditional Way: Lead Came
Like all our work, this window uses the classic lead came method. Every piece of glass is hand-cut, fitted into H-shaped lead channels, soldered at each joint and then cemented. Lead came is how the great cathedral windows were built. It makes a strong, weatherproof panel that lasts for generations, which matters for a large window in a humid bathroom.
Why We Chose American and Brazilian Glass
Colour is everything in stained glass. For this piece we combined two kinds of glass:
- Imported American art glass for the bright, streaky oranges and yellows in the sunrays. These sheets have movement and texture that make the sky seem to glow.
- Brazilian glass for the deep blues and greens of the water, which give the sea a rich, layered look.
The glass changes all day as the light moves. It's soft and warm in the morning and stronger and brighter in the afternoon.
From Our Sanur Workshop to the Villa
The window was made by hand in our workshop on Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai, Sanur. We fitted the finished panel into its frame and checked it before taking it to Nusa Dua for installation.
