Crafting Light and Legacy: Eraglassbali’s Stained Glass Journey at Soulshine, Ubud

In the heart of Ubud, where art and nature intertwine, Eraglassbali had the privilege of transforming spaces with light and color. In 2020, we embarked on a creative voyage to install bespoke stained glass at Soulshine, a serene resort and villa nestled in Bali’s cultural epicenter. This project wasn’t just about glass—it was about weaving stories into architecture. Let us take you behind the scenes of how yellow hands, hearts, and birds took flight in Ubud.

The Inspiration: Motifs Rooted in Meaning
The designs for Soulshine’s stained glass were born from collaboration and cultural resonance.
– Yellow Hands : Symbolizing unity and community, the hands reflect Bali’s spirit of gotong royong (shared effort). Each hand was crafted to appear as if reaching toward the heart, embodying connection.
– Golden Heart: At the center of every piece, the heart represents love—both for the land of Bali and the warmth Soulshine extends to its guests.
– Yellow Birds: Inspired by Bali’s free-spirited landscapes, these birds soar across the glass, a metaphor for freedom and the soul’s journey.

The choice of yellow—a vibrant, sunlit hue—echoed Ubud’s energy, while the intricate details paid homage to Balinese craftsmanship.

From Sketch to Glass: The Creation Process
Every pane began as a rough sketch, refined through weeks of dialogue with Soulshine’s visionaries. Our team in Bali meticulously selected colored glass sheets, cutting and shaping each fragment by hand. Lead cames (H-shaped strips) were used to assemble the pieces, soldered together with precision. The heart motif, in particular, required hours of fine-tuning to ensure its radiance would catch the sunlight just right.

We wanted the glass to feel alive—like it was breathing with the space.

Installation: Challenges and Triumphs
Installing the glass in Ubud’s tropical climate posed unique challenges. High humidity and the need to protect delicate materials meant careful planning. Our team worked alongside local builders, navigating narrow pathways to the resort while ensuring every pane arrived unscathed. The bar area, a focal point of Soulshine, became a canvas where sunlight danced through the yellow hands and birds, casting kaleidoscopic patterns on stone floors.

The Result: A Space Transformed
Today, the stained glass at Soulshine is more than decor—it’s an experience. Guests describe the bar as “a sanctuary where light tells stories.” The heart motif, positioned above the main seating area, has become a beloved symbol of the resort’s ethos.
