Peacock Stained Glass Window, Kerobokan Bali | Era Glass Bali

A peacock feather stained glass window for an outdoor lounge in Kerobokan

In August 2026 we installed a 2 × 4 metre peacock feather window in the outdoor lounge of a private mansion in Banjar Semer, Kerobokan. Here's a closer look at the piece and how it was made.

A window for an open-air room

An outdoor lounge is a different kind of room. It's open to the garden, so the light is always changing: bright and clear at midday, soft and golden late in the afternoon. A stained glass window in a space like this does more than fill an opening. It becomes the room's centrepiece, and it's seen in every kind of light.

At 2 × 4 metres, this piece brings eight square metres of colour into the lounge, enough to anchor the whole space.

Why a peacock feather

Few motifs suit stained glass as naturally as the peacock feather. The eye at its tip is already a set of rings of colour, and the long, flowing barbs become lead lines that follow the design instead of cutting across it. Peacocks have a long history in decorative glass, especially in Art Nouveau windows and lamps, and the motif sits just as comfortably among Bali's carved stone, timber and tropical planting.

For this window we worked in deep cobalt and turquoise, with violet in the barbs and warm amber around the eye. Saturated colours like these stay rich even in strong tropical sunlight.

Made in lead came for Bali's climate

We make our windows in traditional lead came, the method used in cathedral windows for centuries. Each piece of glass is cut by hand, set into H-shaped lead channels, soldered at every joint and then cemented so the panel is firm and weather-tight. It's a durable way to build glass for an outdoor space that sees heat, humidity and heavy rain.

A window this size isn't made as one sheet. It's built in sections at our workshop in Sanur, then assembled and fixed in place on site.
